A K-9 police dog aided in the capture of a fugitive Thursday morning, giving chase and apprehending the suspect when the man led officers on a foot pursuit from a local motel.

Shortly before 10 a.m., Bend Police officers learned that a wanted and possibly armed man was at the Holiday Motel at 880 SE Third Street, Lt. Cory Darling reported.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area and tried to make contact with 21-year old Shawn Jay Moore, a Bend man sought for an outstanding felony parole violation.

Moore spotted the officers and fled from the hotel.  The K-9 unit and officers took chase, ultimately capturing the suspect a short distance away.  Moore sustained minor injuries from the police dog, Darling said, and was treated at St. Charles Medical Center before he was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail.

In addition to the outstanding warrant, Moore was charged with escape plus possession, manufacture and delivery of methamphetamine.
