Pipe Bomb Found in Deschutes River by Fisherman

The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was called in by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a pipe bomb that was found in the Deschutes River under the bridge on Lower Bridge Row. A fisherman located the device, submerged in about two feet of water, on Friday, June 23rd at 8:30 pm.

The OSP Bomb Squad responded to the area from Salem and confirmed that the device, approximately 5 -- 6 inches in length by ½ inch in diameter, was a detonated explosive.

According to Sgt. Kevin Dizney of the Sheriff’s Office, this is the second pipe bomb found in the same area since May 1st of this year, when a similar bomb was located and disposed of by the bomb squad. Anyone with further information on this case is asked to contact the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office at 388.6655.

Sgt. Dizney warns that anyone encountering a suspicious device or object that is a suspected explosive should not approach or handle the object, and should notify local law enforcement immediately.
