Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a senseless act of vandalism that caused over $3,000 in damage to La Pine High School. The mischief included damage to a greenhouse, its contents, a vehicle and a cargo trailer.
Deputies responded to the high school at 51633 Coach Road Monday morning, March 5, School Resource Officer Deputy Don Manning and Sgt. Scott Beard reported.
Investigation showed that the vandals cut their way inside a greenhouse that contained several thousand plants tended by special needs students, and uprooted the plants which are sold to fund special education programs.
A Chevrolet Suburban and cargo trailer used by the forestry club were also targets of criminal mischief, said Deputy Manning and Sgt. Beard.
Damage was estimated at over $3,041, the deputies reported, asking that anyone who has information regarding the incident to call the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 693.6911.
