During Wednesday’s meeting of the Bend City Council, members agreed to an appointment process to fill the vacancy left by council member John Hummel.  Hummel resigned his position March 1, and plans to return to school to get his Masters degree in international development studies.  His plans including working toward creating economic stability in the Third World, in an effort to work toward world peace.

Interested individuals should complete a city application and return it to City Hall no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21.  Council will interview applicants on the following Friday, March 30.  

Applicants must meet the following two requirements:
*   Qualified electors under State constitution, and;
*   Must be residents within the city limits of Bend for at least 12 months prior to taking office.

The individual appointed to the vacancy will serve until December 31, 2008. The City Council is the policy and contract review board for the City of Bend and serves as the Bend Urban Renewal Agency, the urban renewal board for the City.

Applications will be available at City Hall, located at 710 NW Wall Street, and may be downloaded from the City’s web site beginning Monday, March 12.
