Bend Police are searching for a man who held up a Hollywood Video store in south Bend late Thursday night, brandishing a handgun and demanding money before forcing the employees to a room in the back of the store and fleeing on foot.

The robber entered the store at 1120 S. Highway 97 about 30 minutes before closing time and began browsing various movies throughout the store.  As the store was closing, he walked behind the front counter and confronted two employees, brandishing a black handgun and demanding money, Lt. Kevin Mannix reported.

The employees complied with the suspect’s demands, including being forced into a bathroom at the back of the store, the lieutenant said.  They were unharmed.

The robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Arriving on scene just moments later at 11:18 p.m., Police conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect, Mannix said.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 60-years old, 5-foot 7-inches to 6-foot 2-inches tall, weighing 180-200 pounds, with white hair and possible facial hair.  He was wearing blue jeans, a dark two-tone colored jacket, and a dark colored beanie hat.

Lt. Mannix asks anyone with information about the case to contact the Bend Police Department at 541.322.2960.

If apprehended, the suspect will likely face charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree kidnapping, and menacing, Mannix said.
