Two Umatilla County men were arrested this morning for poaching an antelope off Vey Road south of Echo, Oregon following a tip from a concerned citizen, authorities reported.

About 8:25 a.m. this morning, Oregon State Police (OSP) dispatch received a tip from a citizen who had found an antelope, shot and killed off Vey Road, troopers said.  The citizen was able to provide a description of a vehicle and its two occupants that were seen in the area immediately prior to the animal's discovery.

OSP Fish & Wildlife troopers responded to the scene and recovered a bullet used in the antelope's killing.

About three hours later, a vehicle matching the citizen's description was spotted traveling toward the location where the antelope was killed. Troopers stopped the vehicle, arrested two Umatilla County men, and seized evidence including a rifle, shell casings, and ammunition rounds.

Jeffery Richard Schiller, 24, of Pilot Rock, and 28-year old Echo resident Tyson Palmateer were taken into custody and lodged in the Umatilla County Jail for taking an antelope during closed hunting season, waste of wildlife, and hunting from a motor vehicle.  Additional charges may be pending, police said.
