The Oregon Department of Corrections announced that an inmate of Two Rivers Correctional Unit, a medium security prison in Umatilla, apparently committed suicide Wednesday evening.

George William Miller, 18, was found hanging in a single-person cell in the Disciplinary Segregation Unit about 7:30 p.m. March 14.  Prison staff and emergency responders attempted to resuscitate Miller, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Miller received a probationary sentence in 2005 for second-degree robbery in Douglas County. His probation was revoked and he was sent to prison in May 2006 with a projected release date in June 2009.

As with all unanticipated deaths of state prisoners, the Oregon State Police are investigating.
