Two men were injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash involving two dirtbikes on an off-road trail near China Hat Road at milepost 26, authorities reported.

Emergency 911 dispatch received a report of the collision on a US Forest Service (USFS) OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) Trail about 12:40 p.m., Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Davis wrote in a news release.

Citizens led USFS Law Enforcement to the area, Davis said, but details including the names of the parties involved or how the crash occurred were unavailable.

An 18-year old man involved in the crash was driven to St. Charles Medical Center (SCMC) in Bend in a private vehicle, the sergeant reported.  The second motorcyclist, a 31-year old man suffering from a possible leg fracture, was treated at the scene by Bend Fire paramedics and flown to SCMC by an Airlife helicopter.

According to Davis, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team was originally called to assist, but their response was cancelled prior to their arrival.
