A Washington man was killed Tuesday morning when his vehicle drifted onto the shoulder of the highway, struck a rock wall and overturned, Oregon State Police (OSP) reported.
Alan Ray Obermiller, 38, of Arlington, Washington was traveling west on Interstate-84 about ten miles west of Boardman, troopers said in a news release. Preliminary investigation suggests that his 1989 Volkswagon Jetta drifted onto the shoulder near milepost 154 about 9:15 a.m., then clipped a fog marker, continued 200 feet, struck a rock wall and overturned.

Obermiller, according to troopers, was using only a shoulder harness and was not using a lap safety restraint belt.
OSP is continuing the investigation, and troopers were assisted on scene by Morrow County Sheriff’s deputies, Boardman Fire & Ambulance emergency responders, and personnel with the Oregon Department of Transportation.
