A 40-year old Hillsboro man was arrested Saturday when he drove twenty miles with two children in the trunk of his car, deputies reported. To avoid having to take two vehicles on an Oregon coast outing, Douglas Willy decided to place two children in the trunk while he, his fiancé, and two other children rode inside the car.

Washington County Deputies responded to an unincorporated area on Highway 26 to a report of children in the trunk of a moving vehicle.  They located and stopped a green Pontiac Grand Am traveling westbound, and stopped the car driven by Willy at Highway 26 and Chrysler Drive.

Deputies found two children, ages 12 and 13, in the trunk.  Willy told deputies he decided to put the kids in the trunk so the family could take only one car on their outing to Seaside.  Beginning the trip in Aloha, the children had been confined in the trunk for about 20 miles, deputies said.

Willy was taken into custody and lodged in the Washington County Jail, where he is charged with two counts of reckless endangering.

The four children, safely seated in the vehicle and secured by safety restraints, returned home with Willy’s fiancé.
