Bend snowboarder, 14, paralyzed in fall

A 14-year-old snowboarder from Bend was paralyzed when he fell while training for a competition at Northstar Resort near Lake Tahoe Sunday.

Tyler Eklund was practicing for the USASA National Championships when he broke a vertebra is his neck.  He was airlifted to Reno and underwent emergency surgery, but according to Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation (MBSEF) officials, his injury “was such that in all probably he will remain paralyzed”.

A donation account has been established at U.S. Bank in Tyler’s name.  Donations can be made any any U.S. Bank location, and MBSEF is also accepting donations on behalf of Tyler’s account.  Donations to MBSEF on Tyler’s behalf may be mailed or dropped off at 563 SW 13th Street, Suite 201, Bend, Oregon 97702.
