Motorcycle Crash Ends in Tragedy

In the second Bend accident involving a motorcycle in as many days, the latest ended in tragedy on Saturday evening about 7 pm, July 8th.   A Bend man was killed in a single vehicle accident at Brookswood Boulevard and Rockbluff in south Bend.

According to Lt. Gary Mack of the Bend Police department, Christopher Galen Smoldt, a 21 year old Bend resident was deceased at the scene. Investigation showed that Smoldt had just passed another vehicle when he failed to negotiate a curve on Brookswood, leaving the roadway and crashing into a street sign.

According to an officer at the scene, Smoldt was wearing a helmet.

The investigation is continuing, and it has not yet been determined if alcohol was a factor, said Lt. Mack.
