BOGOTA - A car bomb exploded outside a police station in the southwest Colombian city of Cali, the first such bombing in four years.

The bombing reportedly was the handiwork of the left-wing rebel group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, authorities said.

However other groups, including right-wing paramilitary organizations, have also been included among those suspected of carrying out the blast, El Tiempo reported Tuesday.

The Colombian government has been battling the leftist rebels for more than 40 years. In recent years the government has been negotiating the disarmament of right-wing paramilitaries.
