NORTHAMPTON - A car full of people traveling on Britain's M1 motorway was violently attacked by up to 15 men who temporarily stopped highway traffic.

The Times of London said that the gang of men blocked northbound traffic on the motorway with four cars Monday and proceeded to attack the car and two of its occupants with baseball bats, knives and bottles.

The car's driver and front-seat passenger suffered minor injuries in the attack in Northamptonshire.

After attacking the pair and their car, the men fled in their cars before authorities arrived.

Investigators said they are studying video footage of the motorway to determine what if anything precipitated the incident.

A Northampton police spokesman asked for eyewitnesses to the attack and for any other victims from similar crimes to come forward.

"We don't know if there were any other incidents like this anywhere else on the motorway, but if there were then we urge people to come forward with information," he told the newspaper.
