The US Coast Guard rescued a surfer stranded on rocks about 100 yards from shore at the Devils Punch Bowl near Otter Rock Saturday, authorities reported.

They received a report of three surfers in distress about 11:30 a.m., April 14, and immediately dispatched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from North Bend, and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Depoe Bay.

According to a USCG news release, when the helicopter arrived on scene they found two of the men were able to safely return to shore, but the third man remained stranded on the rocks.

The man was hoisted aboard the helicopter and transported to waiting emergency medical service personnel on shore.  The rescued surfer was uninjured.
