Bend High culinary team heads to national competition

-Three-time state champs will vie for National title in North Carolina-
Bend High School’s restaurant management team members will challenge students from 34 states this weekend as they vie for a championship at the National ProStart Invitational, April 20 -22 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to team advisor Louise Markland, the Bend team is considered by many as the one to beat.
“Last year they came in third in the nation, and the year prior they took home the national championship, so many are looking forward to seeing what this team will bring to the competition,” she says.
Markland says Bend High is bringing an experienced, dynamic team to the competition that has what it takes to bring home another national championship.
“We have three returning seniors - Kimber Mattox, Taelor Trueblood and Valerie Sutton who bring a wealth of talent and skills to the team, as well as Junior Jordan Good,” she says. “Together, they have a great synergy that will only add to their competition presentation.”
The team ‘three-peated’ earlier this year when they took first place at the State High School Culinary competition in Portland, Oregon.
The National ProStart Student Invitational, presented by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), attracts top high school students from around the country that are enrolled in the ProStart restaurant and food service management program. These students have proven their skill and commitment to the industry through vigorous coursework and on-the-job training.
