Oregon State Police are completing an investigation into the death of a 78-year old Newport man who died early Tuesday morning from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being found in the men's restroom at Gleneden Beach State Park on Monday.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on April 16, Oregon State Police (OSP) and local emergency personnel responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound found by a citizen in the men's restroom at Gleneden Beach State Park, which is seven miles south of Lincoln City on Highway 101.

OSP Trooper Greg Plummer arrived, entered the restroom and secured a handgun found near John Z. Blower, still alive but suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Medical responders from Depoe Bay Fire and Rescue and Pacific West Ambulance were on scene and provided initial medical care, transporting Blower to North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City.  He was later transferred to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, where he succumbed to his injuries about 3 a.m. April 17.

OSP Newport Area Command is completing the investigation.
