Salem driver jailed for exceeding 130-mph on I-5

A 20-year old Salem man was arrested Tuesday night for reckless driving and other traffic offenses when a deputy clocked his speed in excess of 130-mph on Interstate 5.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Team Deputy Shane Burnham was working traffic enforcement Tuesday night about 11:30 p.m. when he saw a 2004 Subaru merge onto I-5 southbound at Woodburn.

Deputy Burnham paced the car driven by Fue Thao speeding at more than 130 in a 65-mph zone.  Thao immediately pulled over when the deputy activated the patrol vehicle’s lights.  He told the deputy he thought his friend was following him, and that he and his friend often race to Salem to go to work.

Thao was placed under arrest and faces charges of reckless driving and other minor traffic offenses.
