Body found in ocean surf near Waldport

A badly decomposed body of an adult male was found floating in the Oregon coast surf south of Waldport Sunday afternoon, Oregon State Police (OSP) reported.

A person walking on the beach about one mile south of Governor Patterson Memorial State Recreation Site made the discovery about 12:30 p.m., April 22.

OSP troopers, deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Yachats Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the scene and assisted in retrieving the body.

Following an initial inspection at the scene which determined only that the body was that of a badly decomposed adult male, the body was then transported to a local funeral home pending examination by the medical examiner.

According to a news release, troopers are cross-checking missing persons report in an attempt to develop leads and make an identification.  Anyone with information is asked to contact OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800.452.7888.
