Pepperweed, Scotch Thistle and Whitetop Weeds to be targeted
Earlier this spring, the Oregon State Weed Board (OSWB) reviewed and approved a grant application for Deschutes County to work on three aggressive noxious weed groups growing in the County.
The weed project outlined above will cost $20,400 to complete and the State Weed Board grant will assist in paying $8,900 of that total cost. The weed project will begin this month and will be complete by late September of this year.
This significant weed project is a continuation of an earlier OSWB grant awarded to Deschutes County in 2003 to assess, survey, educate, treat, restore and monitor the spread of the same weeds.
The original grant request to OSWB in 2002 was $7,359. That same year, OSWB funded the project for $3,000.
This noxious weed project will be administered by Deschutes County’s vegetation division at the Road Department. Weed surveying, treating, monitoring and land restoration will be completed by Deschutes County staff with support from Oregon Department of Agriculture staff.
