A woman was taken into custody by Deschutes County Sheriff’s officers Friday evening in connection with an arson incident that occurred near a vacant Deschutes Riverwoods mobile home.  Investigation determined 5 separate fires had intentionally been set with matches in brush surrounding the home.

At about 6:30 pm on August 4th, Officers responding to 60288 Arapaho Lane determined that a former tenant of the property had been witnessed lighting the fires.  According to Lt. Erik Utter of the Sheriff’s Office, the woman was taken into custody without incident on a “peace officer hold” near the boarded-up mobile home.  She was taken to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend for observation due to possible mental problems, said Utter.

Fire personnel with Bend Fire, Oregon Department of Forestry and USFS were able to extinguish the fires before any structures suffered major damage.

An active arson investigation is under way, according to Lt. Utter.
