BAGHDAD - Coalition troops on Wednesday detained five terror suspects in Baghdad, including a man suspected of transporting weapons from Iran to Iraq.

The man and four others were arrested in Sadr City, a heavily Shiite neighborhood in Baghdad, CNN reported.

"Intelligence reports indicate the cell leader that was targeted and detained during the morning's operation is suspected of being a key weapons trafficker ... of small arms, mortars and other munitions, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training," a U.S. military statement said.

Iran has denied U.S. allegations that it is providing weapons or training to Iraqi insurgents.

Also Wednesday, the U.S. military announced that Iraqi forces detained the leader of an alleged kidnapping and assassination cell, CNN reported.

"The individual is also suspected of kidnapping a nuclear power scientist and murdering both the director and deputy of Citizenship and Naturalization," the military said.

The military also said that 28 people were detained in a series of raids in Baghdad and the Wasit province.
