Two drivers were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon when one car drifted across South Highway 97 and crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle, police reported.
Redmond Police officers responded to the accident scene near the intersection of South Highway 97 and SW Wickiup Avenue in Redmond, Oregon shortly after 1:30 p.m. June 5.
According to Officer Johnny Dickson, a 2000 Cadillac driven by 84-year old Anne Elizabeth Maxwell of Redmond drifted across the highway and into southbound traffic, eventually colliding with a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina.
Maxwell and the Chevrolet’s driver, Redmond resident Nicholas H. Gonzales-Hernandez, 41, were both transported by Redmond Fire Medics to St. Charles Medical Center – Redmond, said Dickson.
Maxwell was cited for careless driving, and Gonzales-Hernandez was cited for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended drivers’ license.
Oregon Department of Transportation personnel reduced the traffic on Highway 97 to one lane in each direction for about an hour during investigation and cleanup.
