MIAMI -- U.S. Spanish-language television network Univision is inviting Democrat and Republican presidential candidates to debate in Spanish. The Democrats would debate Sept. 9 and the Republicans Sept. 16 at the University of Miami, The Miami Herald said Wednesday. Simultaneous translations would be provided to the candidates and viewers, the newspaper said. Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico and Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut -- both Democrats -- are the only two declared candidates known to speak Spanish fluently. "Hispanics will play a pivotal role in this crucial presidential election, and Univision is excited and honored by the prospect of hosting this historic event," said Univision spokeswoman Stephanie Pillersdorf.
