A 20-year old La Pine man was arrested Saturday when a raid on his home and vehicle resulted in the seizure of two homemade bombs, plus schematics and bomb-making parts, deputies reported.
Detectives and deputies served a search warrant at Cole’s residence, assisted by the Street Crimes Units from Redmond Police and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Oregon State Police (OSP) bomb squad.
During a search of Cole’s vehicle, two small homemade explosive devices were discovered, in addition to several bomb-making parts and bomb schematics, Dizney said. Two OSP bomb squad experts who had traveled from Jackson and Marion counties took custody of the explosive devices for destruction.
“The homemade bombs taken were small in size, but investigation into the manufacture of larger bombs in the past continues,” said Dizney. “The manufacture of any destructive device is illegal with exceptions outlined by law,” Dizney reminded, adding that the Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information about persons making or possessing such materials to contact law enforcement immediately.
