CHICAGO - United Airlines U.S. passengers were temporarily stranded Wednesday morning after a computer glitch caused the Chicago airline's computer system to crash.
United officials said the airline's main system was down for two hours. The airline advised passengers to call ahead to determine if their flight had been affected by the computer malfunction, The Los Angeles Times said.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for our customers' patience as we resume operations," said United Airlines spokesman Pete Scales.
The airline was able to communicate with pilots during the system crash, but essential airline operations such as flight scheduling were temporarily unavailable.
United Airlines officials confirmed that the impact of the system crash was felt at airports where the popular airline has a significant presence.
The cause of the computer glitch was not immediately determined. Apparently, only United's system was affected.
