CAIRO - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will convene a Middle East summit next week in Cairo.
Mubarak has invited Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and King Abdullah II of Jordan to the summit, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said, the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA reported.
Abul-Gheit said the summit's goals would include easing pressures on the Palestinian people and creating a better climate for reopening peace talks.
"It is not necessary for such steps to start immediately after the summit but at least it will create a favorable climate that opens the door for negotiations," Abul-Gheit said.
