JERUSALEM -The West Bank and Gaza Strip's Yesha Council is protesting the decision to send arms to Fatah activists loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The move comes after Israel announced plans to support gunmen faithful to Abbas in the wake of Hamas' takeover of Fatah-controlled government buildings in the Gaza Strip last week, reported Monday.

Abbas also dismissed the national unity government between his Fatah faction and Hamas and swore in an emergency government in Ramallah.

In a statement, the Yesha Council criticized the Israeli government for releasing withheld tax rebates to the new Palestinian regime.

The statement said Abbas' Fatah was becoming "Israel's big friend," even though the group had failed in the past to prevent terror attacks against Israeli citizens.

"Fatah is a terror group in every sense, even if it controls government bodies," the statement read. "Despite all we have been through, it seems some people are unable to learn from the past."
