More areas accessible for holiday recreation

Just in time for the Labor Day holiday, the closure area around the Black Crater and Lake George fires have been reduced, fire officials announced, making more areas accessible for recreational activities.

The closure area around the Black Crater Fire is now bounded on the north by Highway 242 (the McKenzie Pass Highway), on the east by Forest Road 15 to its junction with the 1015 Road (Road 15 is open), the south by Forest Road 1018 and the Scott Pass Trail - also both open - and on the west by the Scott Pass, Matthieu Lakes and Pacific Crest Trail.

Around the Lake George Fire, the eastern portion of the Deschutes National Forest closure has been lifted, as have closures around Link and Meadow lakes. The closure area is now reduced to be bounded on Forest Road 1028-500 to the north, 1028 Road to the east, Highway 242 to the south, and the Deschutes National Forest boundary to the west.

Closures on the Puzzle Fire remain the same, bounded by Highway 22 on the west, Whitewater Creek on the north, the Warm Springs reservation and Forest Roads 1230 and 1234 on the east, and Highway 20/126 from Santiam Pass to Santiam Junction on the south.
