The driver of a motorhome was transported by air ambulance with critical injuries, and four others were taken to the hospital by ambulance after the driver ran a red light, crashed into two vehicles, then ran into a Pizza Pit and another parked car, police reported.
The motorhome, driven by 64-year old Livermore, California resident William E. Mohler ran into a 2004 BMW stopped in the right lane, and a 1996 Nissan Sentra stopped in the left lane.
After impact, the RV crossed both southbound lanes and crashed into a pizza restaurant at 316 S. Reedwood Highway. An unoccupied 2005 Subaru in the parking lot was also hit, OSP reported.
Mohler was transported by Mercy Flights to Rogue Valley Medical Center with reportedly critical injuries. Police say he may be transferred by air to a Portland-area hospital.
Three motorhome passengers, two of whom received serious injuries, were transported by American Medical Response ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.
Audrey Miller, 82, of Cave Junction, and the driver of the Nissan Sentra, was also taken to Three Rivers Hospital.
The driver of the BMW, Michael R. Anderson, 56, and his passenger Claudia Anderson, 50, of Medford, declined medical treatment.
According to the OSP news release, troopers from Grants Pass and Central Point are continuing the crash investigation. Assistance at the scene provided by Josephine County Sheriff's Office, US Forest Service Law Enforcement, American Medical Response, Illinois Valley Fire Department, and Cave Junction Public Works / Road Department. |
