Five people who witnessed two men breaking into a coffee shop hut in northeast Bend early Thursday morning confronted the pair, subdued them when they attempted to flee, then held them until police arrived on scene to make an arrest.
Five citizens from a nearby home saw Bailey and Johnson force entry into The Human Bean and said that Bailey went inside and began passing items out the window of the business at 1041 NE 9th Street to Johnson, the sergeant said.
The Good Samaritans phoned 911 and ran over to confront the alleged burglars, who then attempted to flee. The responding citizens subdued Bailey and Johnson and held them until police arrived, said Taylo.
Investigating officers linked Bailey and Johnson to the theft of several cases of soda in the early morning hours of July 4. In that incident, a neighbor who lives near 1152 NE 12th Street allegedly witnessed Bailey steal the soda from an outdoor refrigerator and pass them over a fence to Johnson. Responding to the call at about 12:45 a.m., officers recovered the stolen items but were unable to locate the suspects.
Bailey and Johnson were arrested and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail, the sergeant reported. They are charged with second-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft, and second-degree criminal trespassing.
