SYDNEY -- Australian authorities raided hospitals and interrogated doctors in their search for terror conspirators in the British car bombings.
Australian Attorney General Philip Ruddock told the Sydney Morning Herald that although some innocent doctors may be caught up in the sweep, it is a necessary evil to keep residents safe.
"If this is all a mistake, some people's lives are going to be turned upside down," Ruddock said.
While the doctors arrested in Britain were Arabs, some of the doctors questioned in Australia were Indian, the newspaper said.
Meanwhile, an Australian judge said police could hold a doctor suspected in the British car bombings another four days without charging him.
Dr. Mohamed Haneef has been detained in Australia since he was arrested Monday at Brisbane Airport holding a one-way ticket to India.
