A Powell Butte man was taken into custody at his home without incident about two hours after police lost sight of the suspect’s vehicle during a car chase on Highway 126 when speeds exceeded 120 miles per hour.

Prineville Police received a report of a dangerous driver on the highway near Millican Road about 12:30 a.m., July 8, Chief Eric Bush reported, and attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 49-year old Edward Leon Simpson.

According to a news release, Simpson sped up, turned around, and lead officers on a pursuit into the Powell Butte area.  Officers ended the pursuit after losing sight of Simpson’s vehicle, Bush said.

Crook County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers arrested Simpson in his residence at 8051 SW Yahooskin in Powell Butte about two hours later.

He was lodged in the Crook County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond, the chief reported, and is charged with felony attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving.  He also had an outstanding Deschutes County warrant for failing to appear in court on an earlier unspecified charge.
