Salem man hit, killed by train in Redmond

A 33-year old Salem man was struck and killed by a southbound train near Evergreen railroad crossing in Redmond early Tuesday morning, police reported.
According to a news release issued by Redmond Police, the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe train crew spotted the man and applied emergency brakes but wase unable to avoid hitting Lamarkus Dwayne Petite about 1:50 a.m. on July 11.

Detective Lt. Wayne Shortreed said the circumstances leading to Petite being on the tracks are unknown, and asks any potential witnesses who may have seen anyone near the railroad crossing about the time of the accident to contact the Redmond Police Department.
The train was held at the accident scene, blocking the crossing for about 5 ½ hours during the investigation, Shortreed said.
