A 35-year old Prineville driver escaped with only minor injuries when he lost control, hit a dirt bank, and rolled his vehicle in an attempt to avoid a deer in his path on Highway 26 Wednesday afternoon, deputies reported.

Crook County Sheriff’s deputies and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the scene about 11 miles east of Prineville about 3:30 p.m., July 11, Sgt. Russ Wright said in a news release.

Preliminary investigation determined that Frank Fitzgerald, 35, was traveling east on Highway 26 near mile marker 30.5 in a 2006 Dodge pickup when he swerved to avoid the deer and crashed.

His injuries were minor, Wright said, adding that no citations were issued.
