Wrestler injected testosterone

ATLANTA -- U.S. professional wrestler Chris Benoit had high levels of testosterone in his body when he killed his wife, his son and himself last month, it was reported.

Shortly before the killings, Benoit, 40, had injected himself with testosterone and had taken the narcotic painkiller Hydrocodone and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, Dr. Kris Sperry, Georgia's chief medical examiner, said Tuesday.

Toxicology tests also suggested Benoit's son, Daniel, 7, was sedated with Xanax shortly before he died, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

"This is a drug that would not ordinarily be given to a child," Sperry said.

While Benoit's testosterone level was nearly 10 times the normal range, there is no conclusive evidence Benoit committed the killings in a fit of steroid-induced rage, Sperry said.

Benoit killed his son and his wife, Nancy, 43, in their home before hanging himself. Their bodies were found June 25.
