SEATTLE -- A former Boeing employee accused of stealing sensitive information and leaking it to a Seattle newspaper pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

Gerald Lee Eastman of Kent is charged with computer trespassing, The Seattle Times reported.

After his court appearance, he faulted prosecutors for pursuing a case against him when he was trying to get public attention for quality control problems at the aerospace giant.

"I'm surprised they would side with Boeing against the people's interest," he said. "Boeing is trying to silence other people and keep them from coming forward."

Eastman allegedly obtained thousands of pages of sensitive information between 2003 and 2006, with some of the information appearing in the Times. He was arrested in May.

He faces up to six years in prison if he is convicted of 16 felony counts.
