A teenage driver who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a 5th wheel travel trailer pulled by a pickup in an accident on Highway 20 West that sent one person to the hospital was cited by Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies.

According to Sgt. DeLuca, 18-year-old Zachary Ybarra of Bend was traveling west on Highway 20 West near the Old Bend-Redmond Highway on July 22 about 4:20 p.m. when he fell asleep, allowing his 1987 Nissan Maxima to drift into the path of oncoming traffic.
 
Ybarra’s car struck the side of a 5th wheel travel trailer pulled behind a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, damaging the axles and wheels, DeLuca said.  The pickup’s driver, 58-year old Paul Martin of Cottage Grove, Oregon, was uninjured, as were his passengers, Janet Martin, 58, Tyler Wells, 15, and Michael Raivo, 15.
