Bend man charged with manslaughter, drunk driving in fatal crash

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers arrested a Bend man on Wednesday in connection with a fatal traffic crash on Highway 22 in Mill City that took the life of 51-year old James Kline of Gates.
John Eric Young, 30, was taken into custody at his home without incident and transported to the Marion County Jail. He is charged with second-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants, an OSP news release stated.

Young is alleged to have been driving drunk on April 18 about 6 p.m. when his Isuzu Rodeo crossed into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into Kline’s small pickup.
Kline, of Gates, Oregon, died the following day from injuries sustained in the accident. A passenger in the pickup suffered non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.
