Bend police detectives arrested two men Wednesday in connection with several thefts from vending machines that occurred in the Bend area over the course of several weeks, in addition to a vehicle break-in.
Robert L. Hooper, 21, and Zachary J. James, 21, both of Bend, were arrested Wednesday, September 13 and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail. They face charges of theft, criminal mischief, and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

The vending machine thefts occurred at Sun Mountain Fun Center, Bend Recreation on Highway 97, Budget Truck Rental, Bob Thomas Chevrolet, and two locations of Thomas Sales & Service. The alleged vehicle break-in occurred at 1707 SE Tempest Drive.
According to Sgt. Paul Kansky, Bend Police officers aided by detectives determined the location of one suspect. Property and evidence related to the thefts were found at one suspect's residence, he added.
