Carrera Motors Hosts 10th Annual BMW Ultimate Drive For The Susan G. Komen Foundation On Monday, September 18.
Breast cancer survivor and activist Demy Schleicher to be honored as Central Oregon's "Local Hero"
The fight against breast cancer will kick into high gear on Monday, September 18, as BMW's 10th annual "The Ultimate Drive" event comes to Carrera Motors for the Central Oregon leg to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The annual event promotes breast cancer awareness while raising money for research, education, screening and treatment.
This is the fourth year that Carrera Motors has hosted a Central Oregon leg of the event, which raised more than $7,000 locally in 2006.
"We are proud to be hosting this event for our fourth year," said Tom Anderson, owner of Carrera Motors. "It's great for the people of Central Oregon to see that every dollar makes a difference in the on-going fight to find a cure, and that by participating in this event they can make a difference."
For each mile test-driven in one of the BMW Ultimate Drive vehicles, $1 is contributed to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs. On Monday, September 18, Central Oregon residents can contribute to this program by visiting Carrera Motors between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to drive one of 21 Titanium Silver 2006 BMWs.
The fleet will be headed by the lead Signature Car, a BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle that will be painted, as are the other cars, in Titanium Silver with a sweeping pink ribbon that swirls around both sides of the car.
The X3 Signature Car will be signed by thousands of Ultimate Drive participants and have photographs of "Local Heroes" including Central Oregon's Demy Schleicher, a breast cancer survivor and activist. Schleicher has been named the Local Hero due to her outstanding personal contribution to the fight against breast cancer and will be honored with an award presentation at the kickoff of the event. Schleicher spearheaded the development and implementation of a program to provide support "kits" to women diagnosed with breast cancer.
