SOFIA, Bulgaria -- The death toll in Bulgaria's flooding rose to five Tuesday, when rescuers found another body in the flood-stricken town of Tsar Kaloyan, Sofia media said.
Those drowned in flood waters were elderly people, three women and two men.
Another four people were still missing in the Tsar Kaloyan area that was flooded bu torrential rains Monday, the Bulgarian news agency SNA reported.
Local authorities declared a state of emergency as dozens of buildings were damaged and parked cars were swept away by flood waters.
Families left homeless in the flooding were accommodated temporarily in local schools.
Heavy rains and flood waters cut off power supply when they damaged electric transformers, leaving eight villages in northeastern Bulgaria, near the town of Ruse on the Danube River, without electricity, the news agency said.
