Short Pursuit of Motorcyclist Leads to Arrest for Traffic, Drug Charges

Police attempted to stop a Bend motorcyclist for allegedly driving recklessly in south Bend Monday evening, leading to a short chase at speeds not exceeding 60 m.p.h., and ending with the man's arrest for traffic and drug charges, authorities said.

According to Sgt. Tom Pine with Bend Police, at 7:52 p.m. on September 18 officers observed Billy Delmont Maxwell, a 37-year old Bend resident, operating his motorcycle recklessly on China Hat Road east of Highway 97.

Police attempted to pull Maxwell over, but he allegedly failed to yield and led officers on a brief pursuit prior to being taken into custody without incident.  He faces charges of reckless driving, failure to yield, and methamphetamine possession and was lodged in the Deschutes County Jail.
