A 35-year old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a person in Madras Monday night, but police have released few details concerning the incident.

According to a news release prepared by Madras Police Detective Tanner Stanfill, Joaquin Leiva was taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, pointing a firearm at another, and reckless endangering.

Leiva was booked into the Jefferson County Jail with the assistance of Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers following the 10:39 p.m. incident in Madras, August 13.  Officers arriving on scene found the victim who had been shot one time, Stanfill said.

The victim, whose name, sex, and age are being withheld pending notification of family members, was transported to Mountain View Hospital then later flown by air transport to Oregon Health Sciences University where he/she is in reportedly stable condition.

Leiva was also taken to the hospital before being lodged in jail, where he was treated for minor injuries.
