Giuliani warns against Palestinian deal

NEW YORK -- Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani says it is not in the best interest of the United States to assist in the creation a Palestinian state.

"Too much emphasis has been placed on brokering negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians -- negotiations that bring up the same issues again and again," Giuliani said in an essay published in Foreign Affairs. "It is not in the interest of the United States, at a time when it is being threatened by Islamist terrorists, to assist the creation of another state that will support terrorism."

Giuliani's senior foreign policy adviser Charles Hill told the New York Sun the Bush administration's push for a peace deal between the Palestinian Authority and Israel may be "risking too much."

"It has a Palestinian state coming into being before the negotiations are completed,” Hill said. “That is risking too much. We do not want another failure --another failure and a terrorist haven."
