Romney ads slam cities on illegal aliens

WASHINGTON -- Ads for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a GOP presidential candidate, Tuesday attacked city policies allegedly giving "sanctuary" to illegal immigrants.

The cities targeted include New York, where Romney's rival for the presidential nomination, Rudy Giuliani, was mayor.

The radio ads are set to run in the crucial primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire.

"Immigration laws don't work if they're ignored. That's the problem with cities like Newark, San Francisco and New York City that adopt sanctuary policies," an ad says. "Sanctuary cities become magnets that encourage illegal immigration and undermine secure borders."

Giuliani is striking back, running his own ad Tuesday advocating a fence along the border with Mexico.
