Public invited to Labor Day Picnic at Pioneer Park

Central Oregon Unions Celebrate Third Annual Labor Day Picnic at Noon on Monday, September 3, in Pioneer Park, Bend

Union members, their families, and all friends of working people and organized labor are invited to the third annual all-union Labor Day Picnic from Noon to 4 p.m., Monday, September 3, in Pioneer Park, on the banks of the Deschutes River just north of downtown Bend. The picnic is free. Pioneer Park is at the corner of Hill Street and Portland Avenue, where Wall Street turns into Hill Street.

The picnic will include a free picnic lunch and non-alcoholic refreshments, live music, games for kids, a celebration of recent labor victories in Central Oregon, and remarks by Oregon union representatives and elected officials. People are encouraged to bring a dessert or other dish to share.

A representative of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 757 from Bend Area Transit, representatives from the Latino community, tenant activists, Oregon AFL-CIO and City  Councilor Peter Gramlich will be among the speakers. Music will be provided by the Ubuntu Drummers and union activists Barry Stranahan and Chuck Forward. Several local organizations will have literature tables as well.

The Labor Day Picnic is sponsored by Central Oregon Labor Council AFL-CIO, Oregon School Employees Association Chapters 6 and 84, Central Oregon Jobs with Justice, Central Oregon Building Trades Council, IBEW Local 280, ATU Local 757, UFCW Local 555, and SEIU Local 503.
