WASHINGTON - Money is reportedly behind White House press secretary Tony Snow's decision to leave the Bush administration.
His deputy, Dana Perino, will take over Snow's duties starting Sept. 14, the White House announced Friday.
Snow sparked speculation he may be soon leaving earlier this month when he told an interviewer if he did not "go the distance," it would be for financial reasons, CNN reported Friday.
Snow, 52, diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005 and liver cancer in March, said his health is stable but wanted to make sure his family was provided for. Sources said getting his children financially ready for college was a priority, CNN said.
The Washington Post said Snow's White House salary is $168,000 -- less than he made while working for the Fox News Channel or broadcasting his nationally syndicated radio show.
