Klamath woman dies in Highway 97 car vs. semi-truck crash

A Klamath Falls-area woman died early Monday morning when the car she was driving crossed the centerline and collided with a commercial truck on Highway 97 about three miles north of Klamath Falls, Oregon State Police (OSP) reported.

On September 24, 2007 shortly before 1 a.m., a 2005 Honda Civic driven by Susan Therese Stewart, 56, was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 269 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline into the northbound lane where it collided with a northbound 2004 Freightliner commercial truck driven by Pho Kheng, of Fresno, California.

Stewart was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use information is to be determined.

Kheng was using safety restraints and was not injured. The commercial truck is registered to James Transportation, Inc.

OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Klamath County area police and fire agencies and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 97 was closed about three hours during the investigation.
