Rock-throwing vandals plaguing the Bend area over the last two weeks have struck again, this time in southwest Bend and the Old Mill District, causing an estimated $15,000 in damages, said authorities.
The vandalism occurred from about 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday, September 29 and 30 and targeted numerous vehicles, office windows, and glass doors of businesses.
Lt. Cory Darling asks that anyone with information about these crimes to contact the Bend Police Department at 322-2960. Those responsible will likely face charges of first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree burglary, theft, and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
According to a news release issued by Bend Police, at least six vehicles parked at the Ameritel Inn at 425 Southwest Bluff Drive were damaged by rocks, and one auto was entered and the contents gone through.
A rock was thrown through an office window of Sawyer 5 Realty at 400 Southwest Bluff Drive. One of the vehicles owned by the realty company had several windows broken out, and the contents gone through.
The glass door to the Express Personnel building located at 400 Southwest Bluff was shattered as well.
The rear glass door to First American Title Company at 595 Southwest Bluff was also targeted. The suspect(s) entered the business and continued to further damage the interior, although a preliminary search did not indicate anything was taken.
Other vehicles damaged were located in various areas, including the parking lot of Bank of the Cascades at 233 Southwest Wilson, Columbia Sportswear at 61334 South Highway 97, 307 Southwest Columbia, 975 Southwest Colorado, and two vehicles on Southwest Roosevelt.
